The fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) gets its biggest update after almost three years since “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
MCU fans can finally sigh in relief as Tom Holland officially returns as the web-slinging superhero for “Spider-Man 4.”
But more than that, speculation about who would direct the awaited film is finally put to rest as The Hollywood Reporter reports that Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” is Marvel and Sony’s leading candidate to direct the untitled fourth iteration.

Cretton, after the success of “Shang-Chi,” was supposedly set to direct “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” before stepping down to focus on other Marvel projects.
Since then, he has produced the Disney+ series “American Born Chinese” and has been working on the sequel to “Shang-Chi” and the upcoming Disney+ show, “Wonder Man.”
Fans so far expect Cretton to include brilliant fight choreography for “Spider-Man 4” after the well-executed fight scenes in “Shang-Chi,” particularly the iconic bus sequence.
Duo Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will also return from the MCU Spider-Man films as screenwriters, while Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal will produce the film.
While details of the title or the film’s plot have yet to be announcedcasinoin, The Hollywood Reporter also reports that “Spider-Man 4” is slated to start shooting by early 2025.
