MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the Philippine Coast Guard’s request for the creation of 4,000 uniformed positions for the PCG.
In a statement yesterday, the DBM said the positions, which were approved by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, are composed of 819 PCG officers and 3,181 non-officers.
“The creation of positions shall increase the manpower of the PCG to 34,430 from the existing 30,430 authorized positions,” the DBM said.
It said the creation of additional positions aims to bolster the PCG’s core functions, including maritime safety administration, marine environmental protection, maritime security and law enforcement as well as maritime search and rescue.
“This will surely boost the operational capabilities of the PCG,” Pangandaman said. “That’s why we are one with them in building a more resilient and responsive PCG workforce.”
Aside from responding to and assisting in disasters, the PCG is tasked to strengthen the monitoring and maintenance of order in the West Philippine Sea.
The PCG’s request to create additional positions is part of the agency’s 2024 target under its seven-year recruitment plan.
The programboo casino, with a total ideal number of 37,869 positions distributed following the PCG’s pyramidal organization structure, is set to be implemented until 2026.
